"In a world...."
Deeply honored to have received the Don LaFontaine Spirit Award. It’s taken me a couple of days to process the significance of this moment and be able to fully express my gratitude to the SAG AFTRA Foundation and Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab Advisory Board.
“‘In a world’ filled with billions of voices, voice actor Don LaFontaine was an icon” and for 25 years the “King of Voiceovers.” “The VO Lab” as it is affectionately called, is a state-of-the-art recording facility that was established by Don’s best friends, family and voiceover industry colleagues as a tribute to his legendary craft but also his unrelenting kindness and generosity. Without a doubt, the Lab has been the single most important part of my career trajectory. It was where I first learned the ins and outs of professional studios, where I got to practice on mic with industry engineers, be coached by voice acting legends, collaborate with and learn from peers who were on the same journey and attend screenings and plenary sessions about the business. It is where I experimented, failed, and tried again and again. And again. It is where I fell in love with the art of voiceover.
I used to joke, “‘In a world’ in which I get to talk in closets for a living, I will have it made!” And here we are. Wow. Thank you Don LaFontaine for setting the standard. Thank you to the SAG AFTRA Foundation for creating a supportive educational environment. Thank you to Don’s family and friends for building upon his legacy and enhancing our community. You’ve changed my life and I am forever grateful.
